Welcome to our 2nd Newsletter of 2025!

In this newsletter we share updates about the charity, including updates on the cost of the feeding programme and new ways to donate

A message from our Trustee Chair - Ben Scrivens

We are all familiar with the rising cost of living and the same is true for our friends in Mombasa. Our latest review of the feeding programme shows that it is now costing Unity School around £2000 a month to feed their staff and 400 strong student body a hot meal every day, which is 10 times what was required when the programme began.

We have noted before how important the student’s physical health is to their ability to participate fully in their education, so we are committed to ensuring the vital feeding programme continues. It costs 87p a week, £3.75 a month or £45 a year to feed one child a hot meal every day at school and anything you can give or raise to help would be appreciated.

We’ve created a just-giving checkout on our website that you can share with your friends and family, schools, churches or colleagues at work to demonstrate how far a few pounds can go, you'll find links to Just Giving and more information on our donate page, and if you’re excited to share more about the work of Friends of Mombasa Children, then keep your eyes open for more information coming in the next few months as we launch a brand-new ambassadorial role!

We know that students learn best when they are well nourished and healthy, which is why we put so much effort into maintaining the feeding and medical programmes. Since the covid pandemic the cost of food has risen enormously and at the same time, parental income has shrunk, making the feeding programme more important than ever.
