OUR STORY

Close up to a Kenya political map with country frontiers and most importants cities.jpg

Friends of the Mombasa Children is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, registered in the UK.

Charity number 1155625

We believe that being born into poverty does not mean you cannot learn or successfully pass examinations, and it does not mean that you cannot grow up contributing to society and making life better for others.

We believe that these children are entitled to an education as good as they could get anywhere else, and that education is the key to escape the poverty trap.

We have seen the needs of these children, and we cannot walk away.

Please read our story and find out how you could help us to help even more children.

What we do

FOMC supports children in Mombasa through the Unity School in Freretown.

Unity School is regularly placed near the top of the primary school list in the Mombasa area, taking the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education. Due to the success of the teaching staff and the high standards of education, Unity School can now charge school fees, whilst the charity supports those pupils whose parents/guardians cannot afford to pay fees, or who can only pay a very little. At the present time 50% of pupils are supported by the charity.

Visits

The trustees have always considered quality education to be the right of all children, and this principal has been maintained through visits to Mombasa by teachers from the UK and Trustees, allowing the Unity teachers to learn about educational tools and resources, as well as teaching methods and communication skills.
