Group update
Thursday, 26th August 2010 |
Hi all,
Well we've been here now for six days and it's going brilliantly! Our group have been working hard at the school, supporting lessons and leading several projects too.
We have started to redecorate the Kindergarten classroom and have enlisted the help of some of the older pupils to help come up with designs for the walls. We've been teaching First Aid to the teachers and the Scouts at the school, have led sport activities and today took the oldest children (Class 8) on an end-of-term outing to 'Mamba Village' - a crocodile and reptile reserve in Mombasa.
More updates to follow soon - but here's a few photos of what we've been doing so far!

Change of registered charity name to 'Friends of the Mombasa Children'
Extract from a letter sent to our supporters:
Dear Supporter,
Over the last few years we have grown considerably as a charitable organisation, not only financially, but also in the various projects that we now undertake. At the present time, we have 19 pupils receiving further education at various schools, plus we support children at Victory School in Bombolulu, by providing sponsorship and help with medical assistance for the pupils.
Owing to this growth, we requested, and were approved by the Charity Commission, to add an ‘object 3’ to our constitution. This allows us to offer support to children and young people in the whole of the Mombasa District.
All the Trustees agreed that it was now an appropriate time to change our name to ‘Friends of the Mombasa Children’. This has also been approved by the Charity Commission, and is now formally our new name.
This change will not affect those sponsoring pupils or the pupils themselves, but enables us to grow more as an organisation, and help other children in the Mombasa area where we find there is a need that we can support.
A group, including three Trustees, is returning to the schools on the 3rd July and, on our return, we will report back with newsletters and pictures. Meanwhile, on behalf of all the Trustees and the children of Mombasa, I would like to take this opportunity of thanking you all so much for your interest and your continued support.
